Kelly Beaman

Kelly Beaman has served as a trombonist, vocalist, and arranger in such places as Madison Square Garden, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and along the East coast with the US Air Force Heritage of America Band. Endorsements for his work have come from such industry figures as producer/arrangers Peter Graves (Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, the late Jaco Pastorius), Duane Hitchings (Jimi Hendrix, Rod Stewart), and Donald Fraser (Sarah Brightman, Jessye Norman, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC), trombonist Tom Garling, and jazz vocalist Kurt Reichenbach, and New York’s New Swing Sextet.

His most recent commissioned effort was a transcription of Doc Severinson’s orchestral arrangement of “The Christmas Song,” re-arranged for Lt. Colonel Larry Lang of the USAF Academy Band. As a developing producer and artist manager, Kelly has obtained permission to submit material to David Wilkes, VP of Jazz A&R for Koch Records.

Additionally, Kelly is Director of Music at 1st Presbyterian Church of Winnebago, IL where he composes original choral literature. Future plans include the formation of a Christian jazz ensemble devoted to the performance and broadcast/webcast of both sacred and secular music through radio announcer John Russell Ghrist of WDCB and WTPB-LP. Kelly holds a BM in Composition from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Master of Music from Northern Illinois University, and an MBA from Rollins College.

But, Then Again

But, Then Again is a straight-ahead swing tune which captures the spirit of Count Basie. At a medium tempo, this is great for dancing and for teaching the swing concept.

Three solos with the lead trombone, lead tenor, and piano (opt. guitar) are complimented with an intermittent brass quartet soli followed by a full ensemble shout chorus. After a recap, the chart ends with a nod to Li’l Darlin’ as it slows to a beautiful full-ensemble close. Lead and 2nd trumpet play to high D. Grade 3.5.

Recorded by the Madison Jazz Orchestra, Brian Whitty, director, Kelly Beaman, trombone, Bill Grahn, tenor sax, Vince Jesse, guitar.
