Product Description:

Just as irony is being pronounced dead, along comes this boozy holiday compilation to suggest that rumors of its demise may be premature. Given the culture`s simmering lounge mania, this collection (with its cheesy homage/rip-off Oceans 11 art direction) may be belated--but hey, punctuality was never these swingin` cats` bag, Jack. The novelty of having three of the 20th century`s most notorious sinners belt, whoop, and sing the praises of sleigh bells, roasting chestnuts, and the virgin birth would be enough to recommend this dizzy, 21-track delight, but there`s actually some rewarding pop archaeology here as well. Two of the best tracks--Sammy Davis`s ring-a-ding-ding romp through "Jingle Bells" and Dino`s dreamy "Peace on Earth/Silent Night"--hail from a vintage, ultra-rare Reprise sampler. Sammy`s typically over-the-top "Christmastime All Over the World" and Nat Cole tribute, "The Christmas Song," also make their CD debut. Dino`s holiday TV specials yield more unreleased rarities: Sinatra-Martin duets of the loopy "Marshmallow World" and a touchingly tipsy take on "Auld Lang Syne" that suggests the boys have shared more than one cup of kindness. --Jerry McCulley

Reviews for Christmas with the Rat Pack

Great Christmas Albumn
Christmas CDs are hit and miss. I have bought several bad Christmas CDs on impulse. This is a great CD. All the best Christmas songs from the "Rat Pack" on one CD. All of the songs are recorded in excellent quality. The insert with the CD is also high quality too. The instert has pictures of the rat pack taken during their Las Vegas on location shoot of Ocean`s Eleven. The insert explains that Ocean`s Eleven was filmed during the holidays and they performed many Christmas shows to help promote the movie. There are also songs from Dean Martin Christmas TV specials.
Beyond Expectations
This album is as good as you probably hope. I was initially disappointed that there were not as many Frank Sinatra tracks as I was expecting, but the tracks by Dean and Sammy make up for it. I do not think Sinatra himself could sing "The Christmas Song" better then Sammy Davis, Jr. did on this album. It is everything I expected and more and I highly recommend it if you are a fan of the Rat Pack.
It`s Platinum Baby
A wonderful Christmas CD. I can`t wait for a Volume 2 to come out. I got this CD in early December and played it every night leading up to Christmas. Every song puts you in a good mood and brings back warm memories which is exactly what Christmas is about. You will love every song. No strage rendition of holiday favorites here. Keep`em coming. We need more CDs like this. The Rat Pack and Christmas. Can it get much better?
Very Good, But Not Great
This is a good Christmas CD that makes you realize how talented the Rat Pack was, but the song selection is somewhat lacking. The CD starts strong and swinging with Dean Martin`s "I`ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm." Although "Mistletoe and Holly" is not my favorite tune, Sinatra`s strong, crisp voice makes it enjoyable. Sammy`s "Christmas Time All Over The World" is fun and light. The CD stays strong until Dean Martin`s rendition of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," which sounds as though Dino had a few martinis before going into the recording studio. Frank resumes the strength of the CD with a beautiful version of "The Christmas Waltz." The CD continues well until the last two songs, which were pulled from The Dean Martin TV Show. The quality of these two songs is bad and the audience laugh track is distracting. You find yourself left out of the joke as you can hear the audience laugh at physical on-stage gags that you can`t see. I don`t know if they were unable to find recorded versions of these songs (Marshmallow World and Auld Lang Syne) from the pack, but these two should have been left off the CD and included in a Rat Pack DVD instead.

Other than the final two songs of the CD, it is really good. My family and I really enjoy the warmth and upbeat nature of many of the songs. It is a treat for those who enjoy music from the Rat Pack.

Sinatra fans... please read!
I figured that this CD was recorded by all 3 singing member of the "rat pack" for some TV special. However, it is simply a compilation of solo recordings with a couple of "bonus tracks" from TV specials tacked on at the end.

Fans of Dino and Sammy may think this is great, and it IS very good, but for those who purchase the title primarily for the Sinatra cuts, beware! All of Frank`s solo tunes are available on the lesser-priced "A Jolly Christmas From FS." "Jolly" is in my estimation the best Christmas album of all time. If you want an overview by all 3, definitely check the "rat pack" x-mas album out. If you love Frank, buy his album and skip this.

Regardless, this CD is great, but I guess I expected more for the price.

Happy holidays!
